OLPC Mali will be participating in a web-conference with the University of Poitiers on September 16th to talk about the XO and what it took for us to introduce it in Mali (the good and the bad), and where we are with things now.

OLPCorps Africa
Led by university students from all over the world, the One Laptop Per Child Corps Africa effort is an active learning project, formed to introduce and implement a computer literacy and educational program for children in Africa’s fifty three countries. The university students first participate in a ten day training workshop at OLPC’s newly opened technology center in Kigali, Rwanda. Then equipped with 100 X0 laptops and a $10,000 allocation for operating costs they head into the field to work with Africa’s young children.

New fashion designer Loza Maleombho is launching her brand in New York on July 25th, 2009 and will use the event to raise funds for the Murals For Mali Project.

Currently working on the Murals for Mali Project with Frances Bradley, Will Kasso, and many others to uplift the spirit of creativity of abandoned children who live in the streets of Bamako, by giving them other means to make a living through art. You can’t give them computers in the summer, give them a chance to participate in a program that will help them see the value of education and of course laptops.
